about me
my work
In 1991, while studying photography at the Southeastern Center for the Arts in Atlanta, I learned the craft of printing images onto watercolor paper to create the artform known as "image transferring". At the time, I was also studying the historic process of handtinting black and white photographs, using the same archival paints and applications practiced before the invention of color film. Before long, I began using my tinting oils and pencils to enhance my image transfers.

People have described these images as being dream like, ethereal and romantic. Many comment on how the images evoke memories of a place or time, or compared them to antique postcards because of their painterly quality. In recent years many of my photographs are of places I've traveled, including Italy, Paris, Prague, Cesky Krumlov, New Orleans, Santa Fe and where I live, the beautiful city of Washington, DC.

Although photography has always been a part of my life and continues to be - - in the past year I've been exploring my desire to produce and experiment with more abstract works. While studying at the Corcoran School of Art + Design, I've created new works that are large and vibrant - studies of color and shape - with a different feeling from my representational travel photography. You will see samples of this on my "paintings" pages. On the "collage" pages, you will also see new work - everything from modern color studies to pieces containing familiar imagery from an earlier time. Look for more new work to emerge over the next few months.
eastern market
Some Saturdays and Sundays, weather permitting, I exbibit my work at the Eastern Market on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. Hours are usually from about 9:30am to 3:30pm. Feel free to email me to ensure that I'll be there. The Eastern Market is a blend of local artists, craftspeople, antiques, imported items, beautiful flowers and farmer's produce. It is walking distance to many restaurants, coffeehouses, cafes and minutes from the Smithsonian museums and National monuments.

Directions: The Eastern Market is located along 7th Street, SE between Pennsylvania Ave and North Carolina Ave., SE in the urban neighborhood of Capitol Hill. The Eastern Market metro station is on the orange and blue lines and is walking distance to the Market.
